Safety Issues As with many sports, there are safety issues to consider. Skateboarding is an extremely fun sport which enables you to keep fit, socialise and get plenty of fresh air. However, there are certain bits and bobs which you need to be aware of which are listed below. It would also be advisable to wear sunscreen. Safety Gear.......

HELMET
It is advised to wear a helmet for safety purposes when skateboarding. It should be padded and made of durable plastic. It should fit tightly without being uncomfortable.

WRIST GUARDS & GLOVES
Wrist Guards These are useful when skating on a ramp as they have hard plastic splints in them. They therefore, prevent the wrist being bent into positions which they were never intended to be bent into!
Gloves These are useful to protect the hands from grazes and cuts which are inevitable with skateboarding.

SKATEBOARD
Try to ensure that your skateboard is in good condition. Check wheels and bearing are in a suitable condition. Check that trucks are firmly attached. Ensure that griptape is in a good condition.

KNEE PADS & ELBOW PADS
These items are necessary items - they not only protect from cuts and grazes but also absorb shock.
